Anyone know if the DVDs will let you turn off the laugh track? During recent
reruns, I've grown pretty tired of the laugh track.

Must hate the fake laugh! In really crappy sitcoms it is just stupid how
much people laugh! it is rarly in a tv show that something is so funny
that I feel a need to laugh out loud so why does the fakt audience laugh
constantly?? I could go on about how stupid this is but it just make me
sound bitter and hostile. to sum up, lets turn it off.

I love laugh track and hate shows that don't have it. Besides it isn' all
fake, if fake at all. It's a studio audience there and you can't remove it
because the talking mikes of the actors pick it up.

On some shows, like Seinfeld it is live, but on Full House and other of
that kind it is fake, and it laughs everywere when it is not funny at
all!

Actually, you can remove most anything. So technically speaking, it's
not correct to say that just because it's there, it can't be removed.
Audio is broken down into channels during the recording process and a
channel, whether used for the studio audience or anything else, can be
removed.

Conversely, studio laughter is often augmented during the
post-production process. It's called "audio sweetening."

The only point of the laughter track is that the TV executives believe that
most viewers are too stupid to understand the jokes and need a cue when
something's supposed to be funny.

Most of the time it's quite subtle and I can live with it (or, more likely,
I've got used to it).

But sometimes it's unbearable. I've seen episodes of 'MASH' and 'Friends'
that have been s-laughter-ed in this way.

The scazry thing is that afther a while you don't notice it. It just
slipps in like radiation or something. But too assume that Friends
lovers are to stupide to understand when to laugh is not to
unreasonable.

Which is why something like MASH was available without lafter and was
originally broadcast in th UK in this way. The laughter in Seinfeld is a
studio audience so isn't out of place as opposed to the on/off laughter of
other series.
